This is a Full-Time, salaried position ($50,000 per year) starting in February 2024.

 

Responsibilities:

The Children’s Ministry (CM) Director (or Pastor) will oversee Christian Education of children (newborn to grade 5) at Parkwood Gardens Church, including Sunday School, Children’s Worship, Friendship Club, VBS and Nursery. It is hoped that they will be involved in our United Brethren summer camps for children.  If this is the case, it will be considered work time, and the pay for the week will be given. This individual will use gifts, skills and experience in areas of leadership, administration and recruitment of the children’s ministry team. As well, they will fully engage in the life of Parkwood Gardens Church and be part of the staff team. This role will be under the direction of the Senior Pastor as with all the staff at Parkwood Gardens.

 

Rather than running all the areas of Children’s Ministry at Parkwood Gardens, the vision is for a Leader who can recruit, equip, lead and support our leaders as they minister to children in the church and our surrounding community.

 

The Children’s Ministry Director/Pastor will be responsible for:

  • leadership of any Christian Education team
  • providing CM vision and leadership in the overall congregation including spreading vision, regular reporting, and being active in the PGC Leadership Team
  • recruitment, orientation, and training of leaders, teachers and helpers
  • ensuring children with special needs are identified and that appropriate methods of ministry to them are sought
  • assisting CM team members in dealing appropriately with parents and families
  • providing leadership in curriculum selection and review
  • developing and leading in vision for building community among CM leaders, participants and families
  • volunteering 1-2 hours per week at the church beyond the job just as we ask all other leaders to volunteer time beyond their jobs
  • planning and administration, including:
    • criminal records checks, screening leaders, annual plan to protect training
    • planning / overseeing programs such as VBS, Friendship Club and Neighbourhood PGCG
    • regular meetings of CM team and volunteers
    • curriculum selection and distribution
    • resource coordination
    • delegation of CM tasks to volunteers
    • oversight of CM scheduling for leaders and programs (S. School, Hall Monitor, Sign in)
    • communicating regularly with CM families
    • run CM events every other month

 

Qualifications and Experience Required:

The candidate will have a strong personal faith commitment to Jesus Christ as well as ongoing desire and effort to grow in their faith and to use their gifts to glorify God. They will have strong interpersonal, leadership and administration skills, creativity and energy.  This person will have skills in both verbal and written communication. They will be able to work both independently and as part of a team. They will have a passion for children and the nurturing of their faith.

  • Post-secondary education in areas such as Bible, Christian Education, ECE, Children’s studies, Education, or Family and Children’s studies would be preferred
  • Practical experience in children’s ministry in churches, camps, education
  • Leadership Experience especially in transferring vision and skills to others

 

Compensation:

  • $50,000 annual salary
  • Two paid weeks of vacation during the first 12 months, three paid weeks per year thereafter
  • Weeks spent volunteering at United Brethren Church Camps will be considered work weeks. Any weeks at camp will be paid weeks.
  • This position will begin in February, 2024, or at a date to be agreed upon mutually, with reviews at 90 days, six months and annually.
