Passing of UB Haiti Founder and Superintendent Rev. Oliam Richard

We’ve received word that Pastor Oliam Richard has passed away on Oct. 8th.  He was with his family in Paris.
Pastor Richard was born in Haiti and studied theology in Jamaica before working with the Salvation Army in the United States. By 2000 he was leading a small evangelical denomination with churches in Paris and in Haiti and contacted UB bishop Ray Seilhamer to form a connection with the international United Brethren church. He served as superintendent of the United Brethren church in Haiti for 19 years.
In the last few years he has spent time in Haiti and with his family in France, and continued to be involved with churches in both countries. He will be missed by many in Haiti, North America, France and beyond.
Services will be held in his honour in Paris on the 26th and 27th of October.
The family and communities in grief would appreciate your prayers,
Matt Robertshaw

Our summer, overnight Youth Camps were held at the Hidden Valley camp near Paisley, ON this August. Camps 2022

We were able to hold our summer, overnight Youth Camps for the first time in three years.  Although we had half the usual number of campers (around 80), we had 70 staff volunteers and a great time was had by all.  Many volunteers did double- and triple-duty to camp run successfully.  Do encourage children and youth to attend next summer's camps and consider taking a week to volunteer yourself.

"Set Free" Retreat

On October 23-23 we had a successful Church Renewal “Set Free” Retreat.  Parkwood Gardens Church in Guelph hosted this U.B. New Church Development event. It was wonderful to have 60 people attend the retreat, from 7 of our U.B. churches. The weekend went very well, with much positive feedback.  Special thanks to Pastor Jim Tice’s leadership, and steps of faith, in planning this event.
It truly was a challenge to hold a retreat in the midst of a global pandemic with it’s many restrictions. We made the decision to take the extra precaution of requiring a rapid Covid test for each participant.  This proved to be the right choice for this event. There were no health concerns reported.
I believe the goals set for the Retreat were practically implemented by our speaker, Dave Overholt. The effects of these goals will continue to bring ongoing personal and spiritual health to our Churches.

GOALS FOR THE RETREAT:
1. Encounter God, be set free!
2. Understand our freedom in Christ.
3. Learn to walk in spiritual health & victory.
4. Learn to help others to receive spiritual victory.

Our speaker, Pastor Dave Overholt, conveyed appreciation to our U.B. denomination “for being all in!” from the leadership of Church Renewal.
